The NVTA annual meeting was held January 29th at our tennis park with a mixed doubles tennis round robin followed a BBQ and pot luck party.

New board members were elected and players headed for the courts while Chef Rick Hanover fired up the BBQ. Thanks to Lis for setting up the round robin. We all had a great time and the weather cooperated.

Pictured below, clockwise: Bob announces the new board members and thanks the outgoing ones; Cindi, Steve and Yong Suk are giggling about something?; "a loaf of bread, glass of wine and tennis"; These ladies can't possibly be seniors can they?; Lis is wondering if cleaning the BBQ is in her job description; The team of Fred and Rick cooked up some great BBQ goodies; Did you know we have a professional baker in our group? Brian's desserts and bread disappeared instantly!!

The Napa Valley Tennis Classic has been selected as a 2012 NTRP Grand Slam Tournament. A tournament gains the NTRP Grand Slam status by obtaining the highest player evaluations and/or the most number of NTRP tournament of the year votes the previous year. Grand Slam tournaments are worth 2 times the ranking point value of a regular tournament. The winner of each NTRP division also receives a special USTA NorCal logo item commemorating their win that USTA NorCal provides.

And we would like to express gratitude to Merryvale/Starmont Vineyards (pictured at left) for agreeing to sponsor the NVTA Tennis Classic for an additional five years!! We could not put on such a great event without their help. A toast to Merryvale!!

Tennis Classic Sponsorships are available to individuals and business. Your name will be printed on banners and the Tournament T-Shirt. Contact any board member for more information. Board member names and contact info is on the NVTA website. See Quick Link in upper left.

Save the dates this summer to participate in the Tennis Classic! June 30 - July 2, 2012
Our perpetual men's league captain, Dick Guisto was honored by receiving the USTA Norcal "Aces" award for Captain of the Year.

Dick was not able to attend the awards dinner and receive his trophy as he had a better offer...he became a "Grandpa" to baby Grace!! Congratulations on both efforts!

CALLING ALL LEAGUE CAPTAINS!

USTA Norcal is happy to invite you to a Captain's meeting on Tuesday, April 17th from 6:30 - 8 pm at the Napa Valley Country Club. We will be sharing our website tools as well as answering questions concerning our 2013 National League Restructure, rules, regulations and of course, RATINGS.

Please feel free to bring team members with you and we look forward to meeting our wonderful captains. We thank you again for stepping up to captain. In addition to answering questions, we will be offering some fun USTA NorCal logo items for a raffle and provide light refreshments.
Please be careful when using the squeegees and the rubber blades on the Dry court squeegees. They will last all winter if you make sure they are properly stored when you are finished using them. Proper storage means inside the locked courts or storage shed with none of the rubber part touching the court surface.

Hang them up!

Mike Mitchell is doing his part to grow the game! He has enough players for his own family tournament. Rumor has it that the young man on Mike's left is VERY talented and is working at the Goran Academy up in Granite Bay.

  • Windows are to be locked with the exception of both bathrooms. Some of you have been closing but not locking the windows. If you don't know how to lock our windows please ask for instruction.
  • Window blinds are to be closed so people on the outside cannot see inside.
  • Do not leave partial containers of food in the kitchen.
  • Clean sink and counter and put away the napkins.
  • Because we do not have janitorial service you might consider dumping the trash from the bathrooms
  • Be sure to lock the gates of the patio and the courts.
If you are the last to leave the courts, please make sure the gates are closed and locked. We have found them left open overnight several times recently as well as the clubhouse doors. Vandalism has been a big problem in the past and we have spent a great deal of money on secure fencing and motion lights. PLEASE help keep your courts in good condition by locking up! None of us want extra repair expenses, right?

The NVTA Court Reporter newsletter will be published monthly. Please submit articles and photos to Bev Wilson.

See you on the courts!
