NVTA & Starmont: A Perfect Pairing!
The 39th 4th
of July NVTA Tennis Classic was a great success again this year! A
huge thanks to Laurence and Rene Schlatter and Starmont Winery and
Vineyards for their continued support as our main sponsor.
Thanks to our
volunteers and sponsors who made this year's event a success!

A Message from
It is with great excitement that I join all of you as
the new NVTA President as we head into another year of great tennis,
socials, competition, camaraderie, and fun! There is so much to
be thankful for in our tennis community ... and so many people to thank!
Lorraine Fazzolare organized and successfully
orchestrated the 39th Napa Valley Tennis Classic with the help and
support of numerous volunteers and players. Thank you Lorraine
and all for making this USTA event a huge success!
The resurfacing of all eight courts will be completed today, Friday, July 26, and they
look beautiful. We have been looking forward to this for some
time and thank both Bruce Lamoreaux and Bob Walsh for their diligence
and leadership in achieving this goal.
If you have some items that you would like addressed

Courts for Matches
PLEASE email Victoria, our court scheduler, of
cancelled matches so she can take the match off the calendar. It is
inconvenient for other captains and NVTA members who check the
calendar to see if matches are scheduled. Twice this week, two
captains asked for courts for make up matches but neither had notified
Victoria that they didn't need the courts for the originally

What would we do without our great volunteers? It's not
fun and games for everyone over 4th of July Weekend.
The NVTA Board Members work hard all year preparing for
this tournament. This year, our new president, Ericka Iten, took the
helm at organizing the planning stages that lead up to this great
tournament. Every board member takes on a key role each year to make
our event enjoyable and successful.
The NVTA Roadies--the 6am set-up crew and 6pm clean-up
crew--make the event run seamlessly. They stay under the radar, you
don't see them, you don't know who they are, they don't expect a pat
on the back; they just take care of everything including: setting up
the score boards and singles sticks, water coolers on courts, tents,
tables, chairs, flags, electricity and signage. They are so
reliable and efficient--you guys are the best: Al Facchini, Fred
Facchini, Matt Forbes, Dan Hunt, Bruce Lamoreaux, Chuck Simonds, John
Swenson and Bob Walsh.
Our new board member Pam Bellefeuille (with the guidance
of Barbara Pahl and Bruce Lamoreaux) was in charge of the food stand
this year. This includes all the food and beverages sold at the event
as well as providing the bagels and bananas for the players. Special
thanks to Ericka Iten, Barbara Blakeley, Yong Willendrup and Pam for
making special treats to sell at this year's event. I hope some of
you were able to try the chicken satay, guacamole, Korean noodles and
chicken Caesar salad.
Thanks to the volunteers who helped out with the food
sales: Mike Ball, Nancy Baty, Richard Cameron, Cindi Glasier, Heejoo
Lee, Liz MacDonald, Deniece Malloux, Jane Matijesic, Kate Pudewell,
Audi Rice, Ken & Dana Stokes, John & Ingrid Swenson,
Tiffany Vannoy, and Cathy Witters.
Sharon Howell, for the past few years, has made sure
everything runs smoothly during the day by having volunteers
scheduled throughout the three days.
We couldn't use the college courts this year because they
were deemed unacceptable by the USTA official and are in dire need of
resurfacing. NVTA thanks Greg Coleman (Las Flores) and Jeff Jacklich
(Napa Valley Country Club) for offering their courts for our
As for me, Lorraine, I am fortunate to have to have my
longtime NVTA friend help me at the tournament desk. Sheila Chapman
drove down from Redding to help at the registration desk for the
entire weekend. Thanks to Cindi Glasier who assisted me the first
morning; when you're never sure what obstacle will pop up at
7:30am. We worked so effectively together as we checked in
players, distributed the new visors, gave court assignments, recorded
scores, kept the draw-sheets at the tournament site current with the
winners & their scores and updated the website with scores
throughout the weekend. Please forgive me if I forgot to mention
anyone that volunteered.
This year, Starmont Winery & Vineyards donated two
tickets and parking passes each day to the Bank of the West Tennis
Tournament, which were raffled off to the players. Saturday's winner
was Dan Wodarcyk, Sunday's winner was Ron Tabtab and Monday' winner
was Kathy Joachim. Every player, upon checking in, received free "Tastings Anyone?"
tickets to a wine tasting at Starmont Winery and Vineyards. If you
haven't been there yet, please stop by; it's a beautiful tasting
room, the surroundings are gorgeous as you can sit outside on
comfortable lounge chairs and admire the vineyards while sipping
Thanks to our USTA Referee, Chris Moore, for all her
help and support, and USTA Official Linda Kikunaga.

Take Full Advantage of your NVTA
Perhaps you want to play with new
players or need to find some players for your Sunday foursome?
This is why we encourage you to log on to the NVTA website and update
your profile! You can list your phone number, email and level
of play and we encourage everyone to do so! Here's how:
1. Go the NVTA website
2. Go to Member Login in the bottom
left corner of the page and log in (if you have not created one, you
will need to)
3. Once logged in, in the bottom
left corner is User Menu. You may update your Profile here and view
the membership list.
So the next time you are trying to
put a match together, invite a new member or someone you haven't
played with by going to the membership list. If each of us
takes the time to update our levels and contact information, it will
be a great tool for our Members. Thank you!
recycling bins are located next to courts 4 & 5, at the courtyard
So far we have sent about 1600 balls to Rebounce for
recycling. The only unfortunate part is that some of our
members insist on including trash and other types of recyclable
materials in the ball containers. It makes it much easier to
recycle these balls if we don't have to sort through the trash.

Sonoma/Napa/Marin Women's Tennis League (SNMWTL) season has drawn to
a close. NVTA fielded three teams--one at the Division 6 level
and two at the Division 4 level. In Division 6, the team
captained by Joan Sibley came in at a respectable fourth behind three
teams who had the exact same number of points. Sharon Howell's
Division 4 team placed second, and Rosemary Quinn's team came in at
ninth. All in all, the NVTA teams did very well and will be
back next year.
The SNMWTL is
a day league with practices and matches on weekday mornings. If
you are interested in playing on one of the teams, please contact
Nancy Gardner at 707-944-1345 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

If you are the

Vandalism has been a big problem in
