A Message from our President

fenceHello NVTA Members!

We had a nice break from the weather Gods so we were able to finally get our Holiday Tournament played.  It was a great turnout with all 8 courts filled and an added Men's flight playing at the lower courts.

Thanks once again to all our Member volunteers helping with our food and toy drives, donating all our raffle items, getting the courts and courtyard ready, Matt Forbes with scheduling and music, all the wonderful food items to share, Dan and Lynette heading up the BBQ, and something that gets overlooked is help with the clean up afterwards.  Again thank you to all that helped out and there were many!

One note of importance is to make sure that with the coming rainy season to let Victoria know of any changes in scheduling matches.  We do not want to not have teams show up to play thinking they have courts reserved and be very disappointed that they don't.

Also, a lot of individuals are gifting this time of year. Any gifts/donations to the NVTA are tax deductible as the organization is registered as a 501 (c)(3). Remember, your membership to NVTA is also tax deductible.

Thanks Again to All and Happy Holidays!

Fred Facchini, Board President

Captain's Corner

New Playoff Rule

Team Captains -- new rule that if Playoffs are not completed by the dates given by USTA Norcal that the decision to advance is now subject to a Coin Toss...NO EXCEPTIONS.. per USTA Office.

Reserving Courts for Matches

Captains: PLEASE email Victoria, our court scheduler, of cancelled matches so she can take the match off the calendar. It is inconvenient for other captains and  NVTA members who check the calendar to see if matches are scheduled. Twice this week, two captains asked for courts for make up matches but neither had notified Victoria that they didn't need the courts for the originally scheduled match.

Please be considerate of your fellow captains and all NVTA members.

Holiday BBQ, Round Robin is a Success!

A great time was had by all!

70 and Older Results

Déjà vu (in reverse)

We swept our final match to clinch the title. Galvin Park had the same score but lost two more individual matches which gave us the win. Last year we tied with Galvin Park, Santa Rosa, in overall score but lost two more individual matches so they ended up in first place.

There were 6 teams, Galvin Park and La Cantera from Santa Rosa, Millennium Vacaville, Pioneer Park Novato, Silverado and NVTA. We had home and away matches with each team.

Team players were Al Facchini, Dick Giusto, Tony Kelly, Sam LA Monica, Larry Miyama, Tl Noeggerath, Clair Palmer, Rudy Portis, Mike Price, Bill Raynolds, Bob Sibley and Tel Terry.

Good time was had by all and we are looking forward to next year.

Captain Bob Walsh

Former President Turns 90!

Bob Walsh turned 90 years young last month as he continues to go strong as USTA League Area Coordinator, Captain of many teams and still serving a few aces on the court. Bob enjoyed a morning of tennis and lunch at NVCC with a few of his favorite doubles partners.

The Sonoma/Napa/Marin Women's Tennis League's (SNMWTL) first half has come to a close.  NVTA's Division 6 team (captained by Joan Sibley) tied for 3rd place in a field of eight.  The two Division 4 teams (captained by Sharon Howell and Rosemary Quinn) came in 3rd and 4th place, respectively, in a field of ten.  For the next couple of months the teams will be gearing up for the second half which begins on January 11.

If you are interested in playing League tennis and are available weekday mornings, please contact Nancy Gardner, NVTA Club Rep, at 944-1345 or

Please adhere to the new SNMWTL rules for reserving courts. Each match can only use the three courts reserved for their match. Please check the Court Calendar to see which three courts have been reserved.

Additionally, please be considerate by not scheduling a team practice during the same time as team matches are being held.

Please Keep the Gates Closed!!

If you are the last to leave the courts, please make sure the gates are closed and locked. We have found them left open overnight several times recently as well as the clubhouse doors.

Vandalism has been a big problem in the past and we have spent a great deal of money on secure fencing and motion lights. PLEASE help keep your courts in good condition by locking up! None of us want extra repair expenses, right?

Also, please remember to return the NEW rollers to the protective covers hanging on the fences.

The NVTA Court Reporter newsletter will be published monthly. Please submit articles and photos to Lorraine Fazzolare at

See you on the courts!
